Class Level Overview
​
Beginner :
For those who are new to burlesque or want to polish their skills.
We recommend that all students start with a dedicated beginner class to learn the history and essential moves of burlesque. If you have a dance or performance background, one or two terms of beginner may suffice, though you’re welcome to take as many beginner classes as you choose as the routines change each term.
​
Open / All Levels :
Suited to absolutely everyone! Once you’re comfortable with your skills learnt in Beginner classes, move to Open classes to try new styles and develop further. If a Beginner class doesn’t suit your schedule, start with an Open class.
​
Intermediate :
Suited to those with 2+ years of Burlesque experience and/or dance training in modern styles. Expect to encounter floor work, as well as dance based elements such as kicks and turns in these classes.

Advanced :
Suited to those with 3+ years of Burlesque experience and/or significant, recent dance training in modern styles. Expect to encounter dense choreography, floor work, as well as dance based elements such as kicks and turns in these classes.

Live your 2000s pop-superstar fantasy with this dazzling showgirl burlesque routine to Kylie Minogue’s iconic hit, It’s In Your Eyes! This open-level class blends classic showgirl elegance with modern pop glamour, featuring sultry struts, playful moves, and captivating stage presence. Think silver, sparkles, and a touch of disco as you embody the Princess of Pop’s signature sass and sophistication. Whether you're dreaming of the spotlight or just want to unleash your inner diva, this routine will have you feeling fierce and fabulous!

SLOW BURN
Step into your power in this Slow Burn routine to "Castle" by Halsey. This sultry routine focuses on using graceful movements to exude strength and intensity, allowing you to express your inner royalty. Wearing lingerie fit for a Lady of the Night Court and draped in a gown, Vera will guide you through slow, deliberate choreography that will captivate and ignite your audiences.

Gaga is BACK, and we are obsessed. The video clip went viral, the song is a smash... now let's strip to it. Join Martini on Saturdays for a high energy, Parris Goebel inspired burlesque class. We'll put together something a little unhinged, a little challenging, but 100% fun.

HEADLINERS: Act Development Masterclass
Are you ready to create your burlesque persona and make your solo debut at The Bombshell’s Ball?
This masterclass is designed for students with several burlesque classes under their belts; the ones who are on the cusp of creating a solo act and hitting stages! This class is ideal for soloists, duos or groups who want to create a new act or polish an existing one. During the course, your tutor will work one on one with you to bring out your performance potential, guiding you step by step through act creation while developing your onstage persona. Headliners also includes practical theory on how to get booked, managing social media, budgeting, building an effective website and more!
Please note: Headliners is not suitable for aerial, pole, wet mess, large prop, or sideshow/danger act development.

CLASSIC BURLESQUE
We step back in time to the golden age of burlesque to learn those all important and fun cornerstone moves. Learn how using subtleties like timing, intention, and your gaze can help you stand out so no one can take their eyes off you while learning a routine to ‘Last Call’ by Ronnie Magri. Get ready to twirl and swirl, peel and pose like a burlesque star from yesteryear!

Take your floorwork to the next level! Improve your range of movement and flexibility week by week as this class takes you through the art of seduction. Learn basic to intermediate skills in moves, transitions and body articulation in a sexy flexy slow burn routine to 'Between the Sheets' by Isley Brothers. Get ready to melt across the floor!

THE CATBIRD SEAT: ACT DEVELOPMENT COACHING
Welcome to the Chaos Creative Hour! Someone who is in “The Catbird Seat” is one who is in a position of advantage, and that’s exactly where you’ll be placed at the end of the term!
These sessions are best suited for students who are creating one act or more and are looking for a cost effective alternative to multiple private lessons and weekly studio time, all rolled in to one!
Work on as many routines as you’d like and have weekly access to Cello who will guide you through your process. Perfect for those preparing for competitions, this course does not have a dedicated performance at the end, however you may choose to film your routine with the studio mood lighting in week 6, ready for bookings!

BEGINNER BADGIRL BABYDOLLS
Frothy babydoll nightgowns, black fringed lingerie to make a pinup queen proud and plenty of pouty attitude – it’s a match made in early 60s heaven! Against the soundtrack of grinding, sleazy 60s instrumentals ‘Take It Off – The Genteels’ and ‘Peter Gunn Twist – The Jesters’, Mara Maraschino will guide you through the cornerstone moves of 1960s badgirl burlesque. You’ll learn bodacious bumps, filthy grinds, unapologetic stage presence and luscious tease all wrapped up with retro era-authentic references.

MACARENA TASSEL TWIRLING
Are you craving a show-stopping, exuberantly camp fun time? You’ve got it with this burlesque tassel twirling interpretation of The Macarena! In this class Mara Maraschino will teach you audience-wowing tassel twirling techniques and delightfully cheeky art of the tease woven into the song’s iconic dance moves. Bring your best 90s clubwear, all the fringe, all the sequins and big bright make-up!

This class is all about bold, commanding movements, unshakable confidence, and a performance that’s equal parts sultry, savage, and steeped in shadow. No we're not talking about Gaston from Beauty and the Beast (although that is Martini's favourite one), we are of course referring to the camp villain spot BE PREPARED from the Lion King. Let's channel our most flamboyant glamour hyena and present a Crazy Horse inspired chorus line number to our humble subjects at the Bombshells Ball.

Backed by live jazz musicians and taunting and tantalising with the wiggle of a gloved hand, the red velvet curtains draw back and everyone's gaze is transfixed on what may happen next.

SHOWGIRL BURLESQUE
Brighten your Friday nights with this Intermediate Showgirl routine set to Eydie Gormé’s enchanting version of “Singing in the Rain.” Step into the spotlight and waltz through the golden age of MGM with choreography with Citrine Velvetine. Think Rockette style, dazzling smiles, and show-stopping moves that’ll have you tapping your toes and twirling through the raindrops! Come learn this adorable new routine and leave dancing and singing in the rain! Grab your umbrella (and your spot) now. This routine is Intermediate level and is suitable to those with prior dance experience, featuring high kicks and cannons.

Private coaching can often be the key to taking your concept or stage persona to the next level!
These sessions can focus on narrative, choreography development, presentation & performance skills, polishing and refining an existing act, creating a new routine or competition prep. Past students coached by our tutors include winners of Miss Burlesque Queensland, Miss Burlesque Brisbane, Miss Burlesque Gold Coast, Miss Burlesque Perth, Burlesque Idol Brisbane, Burlesque Idol Newcastle, title holders of the Miss Pinup Australia competition and many more.
Whether you are working on an existing act, creating something new, developing your persona or preparing for competition season our tutors are here to help you think out of the box, calm your nerves, meet criteria and have you bumping and grinding bigger and better than ever!

A note on presenting classes and shows in a post-Covid world:

To keep you all safe, we’ve adopted a number of measures in the studio that you’ll see reflected in our timetable as well as reducing class sizes overall. To maintain a healthy environment please help us by:

Continuing to social distance and sanitize your hands regularly.

Waiting in your car or in the courtyard until the time of your class where possible.

Not sharing costumes, water bottles, props or shoes during this time.

Remembering that our motto for Covid safe classes is “Get in, dance, get out”. Please do not congregate or chat in close groups in or around the studio.

If you are displaying any cold and flu symptoms including but not limited to fever, sore throat or cough, please do not come to class, filming or the Ball.

If you are required to isolate under current close contact guidelines, please do not come to class, filming or the Ball.

We are acutely aware that our new normal means that plans are now always subject to change and we ask you to trust that we will do our best to deliver content in a way that maintains the spirit of the Academy while keeping you all safe.
When government restrictions are put in place, updated or changed, often at the last minute, we will continue to adapt and go above and beyond to continue our course work.
We understand that these changes are not to everyone’s liking, however it’s very much out of our hands. We are a small collective of artists adapting in order to survive during a global pandemic. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
